About Watermarks

Positioning

Choose from preset positions (corners, center) or use custom X/Y coordinates for precise placement. Adjust padding to keep watermarks away from edges.

Transparency & Timing

Control opacity for subtle or prominent watermarks. Add fade in/out effects and specify time ranges for when the watermark should appear.

Multiple Watermarks

Add multiple watermarks with individual settings. Use grid patterns to create repeating watermark patterns across the video frame.

How to Add a Watermark to a Video

Adding a watermark to a video takes three steps in VidStudio, and the entire process runs locally inside your browser. There are no uploads, no server-side processing, and no account required.

  1. Upload your video. Drag and drop a video file onto the upload area or click to browse your files. VidStudio accepts MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV, WebM, and most other common video formats.
  2. Add a text or image watermark. Choose the watermark type you need. For text watermarks, type your message and pick a font, size, and color. For image watermarks, upload your logo or graphic (PNG with transparency is recommended). Then fine-tune the position, opacity, timing, and movement settings until the watermark looks exactly right.
  3. Download the watermarked video. Click Apply Watermark and wait for processing to complete. Preview the output, then click Download to save the finished MP4 file to your device.

Watermark Types

Image Watermarks

Upload your company logo or any graphic file. PNG images with a transparent background work best because the transparent areas let the video show through cleanly. After uploading, adjust the scale and position to place the watermark exactly where you want it.

Text Watermarks

Type custom text and choose from several font families, sizes, and colors. Enable the outline option for better visibility against varying backgrounds. Text watermarks are ideal for copyright notices, social media handles, or draft labels.

Multiple Watermarks

Add several watermarks at once, each with its own type, position, opacity, and timing settings. This is useful when you need both a logo in one corner and a text notice in another, or when different watermarks should appear at different times in the video.

Grid Patterns

Create repeating watermark patterns that tile across the entire video frame. Choose a grid size such as 2x2, 3x3, or 4x4 to distribute your watermark evenly. Grid patterns make it much harder for anyone to crop out or remove the watermark from your footage.

Common Use Cases

Protect Content from Reposting

Adding a visible watermark discourages unauthorized sharing and makes it clear who owns the footage. Place your logo or name in a corner, or use a tiled grid pattern for stronger protection.

Brand Your Videos

Keep your brand visible by placing a company logo on every video you publish. Adjust the opacity so the watermark is noticeable without distracting from the content itself.

Add Copyright Notices

Use a text watermark to display a copyright line such as your name and year. Position it along the bottom edge at low opacity for a professional, unobtrusive look.

Mark Drafts and Previews

Add a large, centered "DRAFT" or "PREVIEW" text watermark to videos you share for review. This prevents unfinished work from being mistaken for the final version.

Add Social Media Handles

Place your Instagram, YouTube, or TikTok handle on clips before sharing them across platforms. Even if the video is re-shared without credit, viewers can still find the original creator.

100% Private -- Your Video Never Leaves Your Device

Privacy is especially important when watermarking video. You are often working with unreleased content, confidential footage, or branded material that should not be uploaded to a third-party server. VidStudio is built differently from most online video tools. It uses FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly, which means the entire video processing engine runs directly inside your browser.

Your video file is never transmitted over the internet. There is no upload step, no cloud processing, and no server-side storage. Everything happens on your own computer. This means faster processing because there is no upload or download wait, complete privacy because no one else can see your files, and no need for an account because there is no server managing your data.

Supported Formats

Video input formats: MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV, WebM, FLV, WMV, M4V, 3GP, and most other formats supported by FFmpeg. If your video plays in a media player, it will almost certainly work in VidStudio.

Image watermark formats: PNG (recommended, supports transparency), JPG, WebP, GIF, BMP, and other common image formats. For the best results, use a PNG file with a transparent background so the watermark blends naturally with the video.

Output format: MP4. The watermarked video is encoded as a standard MP4 file that plays on virtually every device, platform, and media player.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I add a logo image as a watermark?

Yes. Switch the watermark type to Image, then upload your logo file. PNG images with a transparent background work best because the transparent areas let the video show through. You can adjust the size, position, and opacity after uploading.

How do I make a watermark semi-transparent?

Use the Transparency tab to set the opacity slider. A value around 30 to 50 percent creates a subtle watermark that is visible without distracting from the video content. You can also add fade-in and fade-out effects so the watermark gradually appears and disappears.

Can I add multiple watermarks to one video?

Yes. Click the Add button in the Watermark Source section to create additional watermarks. Each watermark has its own settings for type, position, opacity, timing, and movement. You can also use the grid pattern feature to place a repeating watermark across the entire frame.

What is the difference between text and image watermarks?

Text watermarks let you type custom text and choose the font, size, color, and outline settings. Image watermarks let you upload a logo or graphic file such as a PNG or JPG. Both types support the same positioning, transparency, timing, and movement options.

Do I need to create an account?

No. VidStudio runs entirely in your browser using FFmpeg WebAssembly. There is no account, no login, and no server upload. You open the page, add your watermark, and download the result. Your video never leaves your device.
